Happy 4th of July

Most of you know if not all of you, that my husband's a United States Soldier (Soldiers are in the ARMY btw..airmen/Airforce, Sailors/Seaman/Navy, and Marines/Marines..Soldiers are ONLY ARMY). So yes we love this holiday. I a very patriotic girl, always have been and always will be. I won't get into politics although most of you probably know where I stand...RIGHTly so! LOL

So today how did we celebrate our Nations Birthday? Well we're Americans right...just living in Germany! We had a BBQ of course. We invited our friend Bobbie over and her two kids (granted her daughter is only 6 months old). Chad and Bobbie set up our new tent (a pavilion tent) and after watching them fight with it (I took a couple pictures, it was quite humorous, but I have not uploaded them yet) they got it all set up, just in time for the rain to start! Chad grilled Steaks, burgers for the kids, had baked potatoes and corn on the cob that he also cooked on the grill. It was all perfect! Tasted wonderful!!! We were all stuffed beyond max and actually never ate the dessert that Bobbie brought over (it's still in my fridge!).

After we ate the kids played for a while longer and Bobbie and the baby left as she had brownies she had to take up to the community celebration. We cleaned up and about 5 pm Bobbie called to see what time we were coming, we were about 10 minutes from walking out the door. I hung up with her and went to get the boys sweat shirts, because it's in the low 60's here (chilly!). As I'm getting them sweat shirts I can tell it's raining, but man it's loud and I look out their window and we're getting HAIL! Insane I tell you. I call Bobbie to make sure she's able to find cover and she was heading to her van and then BOOM the thunder and lightening start up, we hang up and just chill out at home waiting to see if it stops. We got the boys ready and headed up there about 6. There was plenty of fun to be had, but my perk was they had funnel cakes!! Let me just say this is one of my favorite things in the world! LOL I had 3 over the course of the evening. They weren't big and fluffy like I love, but they were good none the less! The boys each had one too and they actually ate over half of my last one. Oh they were good! LOL I haven't had one since we lived in the states (so 2 yrs ago) so it was a wonderful treat!!

The boys played and played. Brandon (Bobbie's son) accidently pushed Jacob down and Jacob's whole right side was muddy. Oh and I forgot when we first got there and got parked, Jack crawled up on the side of the hill and decided to slide down it...in mud of course! LOL Both of them were just a muddy mess, Brandon too of course. Of course every other child there was as well (if they were walking), and everyone's shoes were covered in mud. It was just impossible to avoid it!

They had a band there this year, that was so so so good! Come to find out the lead singer is the local Culligan man! LOL They were American guys (or at least the lead and the lead guitar/singer). They just did a great job, did great covers, and sang on key. Let me tell you the girls they had last year (sponsored by the USO) oh they were horrible. They couldn't sing on key and well they were dressed far too um, well they didn't have enough clothes on to mine and most of us ladies likings. Sadly last year no one really noticed when they were done other than the off key singing was over and they didn't get applause which I did feel bad for them when I noticed they'd finished and no one clapped. Tonights band though...did an encore they were so good! They were a rock band, so not my particular cup of tea, but they did a lot of 80's and 90's andearly 2000 songs and so I knew most of them and pretty well everyone there was loving them. The kids were all dancing, tons of us were singing along. It was just a great group and they are great performers. I really hope our community has them back again. Then it was time for the Fireworks!

The fireworks were great! Jackson does not like the loudness of them, so he literally sat in his chair with his hands over his ears for the whole duration, but he loved them still! Jacob and Brandon whooped and hollored through all of them, there was a lot of that from all the kids and a lot of adults as well! They did a fantastic job with the fireworks display (which they did last year as well). We really enjoyed it and amazingly this year because of the overcast skies since it's getting dark about 10:30 or so vs 11:00 pm like last year, they started early and we got home a few minutes before 11! It was really a great evening. In the 5 minute drive home Jack almost fell asleep. He didn't have a nap so he was wiped out, Jacob too! I took a shower as soon as I got home and by the time I got out, they were both in bed and sleeping!

So that pretty well sums up our day! It was great and here it is 1:00 am and I'm wiped out and ready for bed. I'll write more tomorrow. I have an ob apt tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening we have family pictures. I have no idea what we're going to wear it's one of those that we can either dress up or they have customes for us to put on. We're going to wear our own clothes, so I need to figure out exactly what we're all going to wear. I have laundry I need to finish up tomorrow (preferably before the pictures since Chad has no more clean jeans and the boys are getting low as well as am I! LOL). We also have the Culligan man coming to drop everything off, (the water in Germany is horrible and we've had a filter on our sink and a brita pitcher but it broke and ultimately Culligan's cheaper than the filters). Chad also has phyiscal therapy tomorrow afternoon!

Good Night and Happy 4th of July....Remember to Thank a Military Member they are the reason we have our freedom's and the only reason why we'll maintain them!

Sounds like a great celebration.  I would trade the 60's for our 90's and humid!  Although you could keep the rain!  LOL  At least for the 4th.  We need it here.  I wanted a funnel cake last night but I refrained.  There was a good band at the park we went to.  They played tons of classic hits.
