Update on Pregnancy

Well I had my glucose test today. I had one early on in my pregnancy at my request and so today was the reg. scheduled one. I have gestational diabetes. It should be able to be managed with diet. I'm going to do everything in my power to control it that way. I go Friday to a specialist and will get my tester and talk to the dr about my restrictions, etc. When the guy at Tricare called today for me to make my apt they said to try eating salads and lots of protiens. I'm a carb girl, always have been...so please pray for me that I can do this without any struggle.

I have diabetes all over in my family, so it has always  been something I've known could happen and then with me overwieght it really upped the chances big time. I am going to start walking more, so

I had an ultrasound today and the baby is measuring right on target and my fluid levels are perfect as well. The ob said that if the baby was bigger (something I did know) that'd be a sign and if I had extra fluid it'd also be a sign (something I didn't know!), so the fact that both are great is a GREAT sign that this was caught early on.

The baby is "breech" which isn't a big deal for me since I'll have a c-section but it explains why it was so hard to get a good heart reading today during my non-stress test! Every other u/s the baby has been head down, so since I had the stress test before the u/s I guessed that she was still head down and we put the dopler where we THOUGHT her heart would be, we were getting readings but it was really hard and I had to keep pushing on the doppler for the 30 minutes of the test, and lets just say I was not comfy at all during that! :) I think ultimately we had the doppler on aprox. her little tushy! LOL So I'm actually impressed we ever got a reading, she obviously has a strong heartbeat! hehe

Ok, I have to be up in about 6 hours. Chad has knee surgery in the morning, so please keep him in your prayers. We're dropping the boys off at a friends at 6:30, then off to his drs for surgery. Hopefully we'll be home by early afternoon! They're calling for rain tomorrow so I'm not sure if Jackson will have his last game tomorrow or not! We'll just have to see!!!

God Bless

I had gestational diabetes with my youngest.  It was controlled with diet and I did fine, but I had to stay away from all that SUGAR and CARBS!!!  After he was born the first thing I wanted to eat?  Peanut M & M's!!!!!!  Oye Vey.  It's now almost 13 years later and I am at a higher risk for Type 2 diabetes.  I'm overweight (I reallty have to fix that) had a baby that weighed more than 9 lbs (my middle one) AND had gestational diabetes.

Guess there aren't many more peanut M & M's in my future....(lol)

Good luck with Hubby's surgery.

((hugs))

wow - it's funny because I remember talking to you before and you just had this feeling in your gut that this time around gestational diabetes would be a factor.  Funny how those things work!  Hang in there kid, I know you have a lot on your plate, but I cannot wait to meet this little girl!

I also had gestational diabetes, and I was told that whether or not you have it whilek pregnant has nothing to do with weight.  From what they told me, there is a hormone that can block the insulin from passing through into the amniotic fluids.

To help me control my blood sugars, the doctor had me on a medication that I took in pill form (after threatening me with shots).  My baby came out a normal size at a normal time!

Try to find sugar free breads.  We have them in the USA, but maybe only two brands.  In the mornings, I would fry an egg and then grill a cheese sandwich with that egg in it.  Surprisingly, it did not raise my blood sugar.  If that doesn't do it, try it without the cheese.  Then, a sandwich for lunch with meat and pickles.  Wheat pasta instead of flour pasta helps alot too.

Carbs were very very very bad for my blood sugar.  NO POTATOES!  Try sweet potatoes and cook them like you would a russet potato.  That will keep your blood sugar down as well.

Salads, of course, are very good, but they can get boring.  One meat, two veggies in the evenings with some wheat pasta if you wish.

Oh well, I've just given a lot of advice.  lol  If you want to chat about it more, you can email me.  :)

Hugs and prayers!

Glad to hear things are going well...
I too had gestational diabetes and managed to make it until month 5 before going on insulin.  It wasn't as bad as I thought and my doctor kept telling me I was doing a great job but it was just my body--so if you have to don't feel guilty!  Especially with a history of diabetes in the family it may be unavoidable. However, once you get on it and figure it out it's not so bad. :)  Really! lol

Will keep you in my prayers...I miss being preganant. I haven't felt that good in a long time...it's amzing how strong you can be about eating healthy when their is another life involved! :)

God Bless.

Sorry about the gestational diabetes.  I had it with Bella.  NOT fun.  I tried to control it with diet but I did end up having to have one shot per day.  I wish I could make myself eat like I did then all the time.  I lost weight while I was pregnant.  I will pray for your diet to do the trick.
